December 16, 2024 marks the 5-year anniversary of the Goodmansons owning the Arivaca Mercantile. A lot has changed in the store in 5 years, and there are even more amazing things on the horizon. Buckle up, y’all, 2025 and beyond will be wonderful!

2024 Small Business of the Year

Pima County Small Business Commission

On December 2, 2024, the Arivaca Mercantile was awarded the Pima County Rural 2024 Small Business of the Year! Damon and Hannah attended the Pima County Board of Supervisor meeting and were presented with the plaque.

In October 2024, two of our employees and our owner started EMT school, taught by Arivaca Fire District Fire Chief, Tangye Beckham. We are very proud of their ambitions and will be cheering them on the entire way!

PROPANE ASSISTANCE CUSTOMERS:

As of 8/25/2023

We are now listed as an approved vendor in the new LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) program through DES.

When you apply online through DES, you can choose Arivaca Mercantile as your portable fuel vendor (i.e. propane), and we are notified and will update your Merc account accordingly.

In June 2023, a Pollinator Pathway Garden was installed at both the Mercantile and the Hardware store. The project was cultivated by the Arivaca Dancehall and volunteers, in coordination with a grant from the Endangered Species Coalition. Local kids painted signs for each display and the native plants were provided by local Whorled Leaf Nursery. A number of these gardens will be placed around Arivaca over the coming months.

On 2/19/23, Damon, Hannah, Rita, & a handful of amazing volunteers took to the “streets” and cleaned up two miles of Arivaca Road. Arivaca Sonz Hardware is adopting that section and we were thrilled to help clean up our beautiful desert.

Friends of the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge Annual Fundraiser

Damon and Hannah (along with Rita and Tommy from Arivaca Sonz Hardware & other local business owners and residents) attended the Friends of the Buenos Aires Wildlife Fundraiser at the newly refurbished Arivaca Dancehall in January 2023. They love supporting local causes whenever possible. Be sure to check out the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge if you are in the area!

Located conveniently across from the Mercantile, the location will provide your daily DIY fix solutions, as well as any building material and/or professional tools you need. Current opening set for early 2023 - stay tuned for updates!

Students Connecting Through International Service

This group supplies school supplies and/or food to the kids & families in Sasabe, Mexico. We are honored to partner with them in delivering the groceries down to Sasabe, Arizona for hand-off. This occurs every few months, and the pictures below are from March, May, and November 2021.
